Societa Anonima Motori Endotermici (SAME) was founded in the 1920s by Francesco Cassani. Cassani was an early tractor pioneer in Italy, being one of the first to use diesel engines and four-wheel drive in farm equipment. SAME has continued to grow and expand, acquiring Lamborghini tractors in 1972, Hurlimann in 1977, and Deutz-Fahr in 1995.
